While all fiction manuscripts must fall into one of the main categories, there are sub-categories that can also be used to classify a fiction submission. These include crime, thriller, suspense, alternate history ad young adult novels.
Mystery, U.S. historical fiction, science fiction, and fantasy manuscripts must be between 50,000 and 120,000 words. Romance manuscripts must be between 40,000 and 80,000 words. All non-fiction manuscripts must be between 40,000 and 80,000 words.

In online publishing, writers are usually paid a royalty percentage for all copies of the book that are sold and are not paid in advance. Print books sold by ePress Online pay writers a 7.5 to 10 percent royalty on book sales. For the ebook versions of the books, there are several tiers of online publishing payments.
For the first 1,000 copies of the book sold, the Internet publisher will pay a royalty of 30 percent of the purchase price. For the next 2,500 copies, the royalty is 35 percent. For any additional copies sold, the royalty paid is 40 percent of the purchase price.
If the Internet publisher enters into an agreement with a distributor or affiliate, the royalty paid to the writer is 50 percent of that sales. If the book is reprinted by another publisher under a licensing agreement or the book is published by a book club, the writer is paid 75 percent of the price paid by those publishing channels.
5. Online Publishing and Author Rights
The rights granted to the online publisher are worldwide rights in both ebook and print format for two years. Books that are made available through Fictionwise will be sold through the site for five years.
